Western Sydney Youth Collective
A platform for voice, place and opportunity across Greater Western Sydney.
A platform for voice, place and opportunity across Greater Western Sydney.
The Western Sydney Youth Collective is a youth-informed civic participation and systems insight initiative embedded across the Greater Western Sydney Advocacy Network (GWSAN).
The Collective brings together young people who care about:
housing affordability
public space
belonging
transport
wellbeing
participation
future opportunity
healthier and more connected communities
We believe young people should not only be included in conversations about the future of Western Sydney but actively help shape them.

Greater Western Sydney is growing rapidly but not always fairly.
For many young people across Western Sydney, everyday life can involve:
long travel times
housing pressure
rising living costs
limited local opportunities
lack of welcoming third spaces
reduced influence over decisions shaping their future
At the same time, young people are expected to build their futures within systems they often have little role in shaping.
The gap is not potential.
The gap is:
access
participation
opportunity
representation
influence
Without change, these gaps will continue to shape not only individual outcomes but the long-term future of Greater Western Sydney itself.
Young people are deeply affected by decisions relating to:
Housing
Infrastructure
Transport
Public space
Education
Community investment
Yet young people are often underrepresented in planning, policy and civic decision-making processes.
Understanding youth experiences is important for creating:
Healthier communities
More inclusive planning
Better participation pathways
More connected public spaces
Fairer access to opportunity
Young people should help shape the future of the communities they live in.
Where young people live shapes what they can access.
Across Greater Western Sydney, differences in:
transport
infrastructure
housing
public space
services
investment
walkability
food access
create very different everyday experiences from one neighbourhood to another.
Place affects:
opportunity
mobility
wellbeing
independence
social connection
participation
belonging
The Collective recognises that healthier and more connected communities are shaped not only by programs, but by the environments people experience every day.
“We know what’s missing because we live it every day.
We want places to go, opportunities we can actually access, and a voice that leads to real change.
We don’t just want to be asked — we want to be involved from the beginning.”
(To be co-developed with young people.)
A Greater Western Sydney where young people:
have fair access to opportunity and investment
can access safe, welcoming and affordable spaces
feel connected to their communities
are actively involved in shaping their neighbourhoods and future
can access healthier and more inclusive public environments
are supported into stable housing, work and independence
understand how systems shape everyday life
feel heard, represented and valued
The Western Sydney Youth Collective is grounded in the belief that meaningful participation can help drive long-term systems change.
This means moving beyond one-off consultation toward ongoing participation, collaboration and shared understanding.
The Collective explores how housing, planning, transport, public space and participation shape everyday life for young people across Western Sydney.
The Western Sydney Youth Collective is guided by the understanding that housing, transport, health, participation and opportunity are deeply interconnected.
