Stronger voice for Western Sydney
Our Communities. Our Stories. Our Future.
Greater Western Sydney is one of the fastest-growing and most diverse regions in Australia.
It is a region full of:
creativity
resilience
cultural richness
ambition
emerging leadership
strong communities
But many people across the region continue to experience:
housing stress
long commutes
rising living costs
infrastructure delays
unequal access to healthy food and services
increasing urban heat
reduced access to opportunity
exclusion from decision-making
In some parts of Western Sydney, people can live significantly shorter lives than communities elsewhere in Sydney due to long-term differences in access, infrastructure, health outcomes and investment.
These challenges are connected.
Housing affects health.
Transport affects opportunity.
Public space affects belonging.
Food access affects wellbeing.
Participation affects trust.
We believe every community deserves its fair share of:
opportunity
healthy environments
infrastructure
participation
investment
long-term wellbeing
What Is the Fair Share Framework?
The Fair Share Framework is GWSAN’s long-term vision for a more equitable Greater Western Sydney.
It helps connect big-picture systems — like housing, transport, health, planning and participation — to the everyday experiences of people across our communities.
The framework is built around five connected priorities.
We don’t just advocate. We work with communities to turn ideas into real, on-the-ground action.

What Success Looks Like
Building Belonging, Participation & Civic Capability
Strong communities are built through participation, trust and shared responsibility.
GWSAN exists to help strengthen:
civic participation
public understanding
systems literacy
regional identity
collaboration across sectors
community voice and leadership
We believe people are more likely to feel connected to their communities when they:
understand how decisions are made
can participate meaningfully
feel heard and represented
have access to welcoming public spaces
feel hopeful about the future of their region
This is why civic literacy matters.
Understanding how cities, planning, government and infrastructure work helps communities participate more confidently in shaping the future of Greater Western Sydney.
“People are more likely to trust systems when they understand and can participate in them.”
Young People & Future Leadership
Young people are already shaping communities, culture and civic life across Greater Western Sydney.
Yet many continue to experience:
housing pressure
long travel times
limited local opportunities
lack of welcoming third spaces
reduced influence over decisions shaping their future
Through the Western Sydney Youth Collective and broader GWSAN initiatives, we are helping strengthen:
youth-informed research and insight
leadership capability
systems understanding
participation pathways
storytelling and advocacy
belonging and community connection
We believe every young person should feel connected to the future of their community and understand how they can help shape it.

Find Your Place. Make an Impact.
There are many ways to contribute to healthier, fairer and more connected communities across Greater Western Sydney.
Whether you’re a resident, student, researcher, planner, creative, community worker or organisation, GWSAN provides opportunities to contribute through advocacy, research, storytelling, civic education and collaboration.
Why Greater Western Sydney needs this?
Our population is growing faster than anywhere else in NSW.
We’re younger and more culturally diverse than the Sydney average.
We receive less funding per capita for infrastructure and services.
Without fair share investment, our communities fall further behind.
GWSAN is powered by a growing network of researchers, planners, students, professionals, community leaders and residents working for a fairer future.
We bring together lived experience, policy insight and practical ideas to advocate for housing affordability, transport access, health equity and opportunity across the region.
Whether you want to contribute your story, support our research, or help shape local campaigns, there’s a place for you here.
