What We're Working On Right Now
We are currently working on youth-focused research, a Western Sydney planning white paper and a community-led placemaking pilot.
Youth-focused research (Penrith & Blacktown)
We are gathering insights from young people in Penrith and Blacktown to better understand their experiences, challenges and ideas for improving their communities.
Better Planning for Western Sydney White paper
We are developing a white paper focused on Western Sydney to provide practical recommendations for better planning, housing and infrastructure outcomes.
Upcoming community-led placemaking pilot
We are developing a community-led placemaking pilot in Penrith and Blacktown to explore what makes local spaces feel safe, social and liveable, and how small changes can improve everyday places.

What We're Changing in Western Sydney
We focus on the issues that shape everyday life and work with the community to improve them.
Creating places people can afford, feel safe in and actually want to live in, with better housing, public spaces and local amenities.
Making it easier for people to get where they need to go, connecting communities to jobs, education and essential services.
Making sure local communities, especially young people, are heard and meaningfully involved in shaping decisions.
We don’t just advocate. We work with communities to turn ideas into real, on-the-ground action.
Why Greater Western Sydney needs this?
Our population is growing faster than anywhere else in NSW.
We’re younger and more culturally diverse than the Sydney average.
We receive less funding per capita for infrastructure and services.
Without fair share investment, our communities fall further behind.
GWSAN is powered by a growing network of researchers, planners, students, professionals, community leaders and residents working for a fairer future.
We bring together lived experience, policy insight and practical ideas to advocate for housing affordability, transport access, health equity and opportunity across the region.
Whether you want to contribute your story, support our research, or help shape local campaigns, there’s a place for you here.
GWSAN engages with organisations and networks working on housing affordability, urban wellbeing, civic participation, climate resilience and regional equity.
We are proud to engage with organisations and networks including:
alongside researchers, educators, community leaders and contributors committed to healthier, fairer and more connected communities.

We’ll contact you with relevant opportunities to collaborate, contribute, or stay in the loop. That might include co-design sessions, research interviews, working groups, or project updates — depending on your interests.
